Tecvac Nitron Flight Anti erosion coatings improve specific fuel consumption
Tecvac today announced more results from the test programme on the new Nitron Flight coatings shown for the first time at Farnborough. Nitron Flight B gives between 140% and 270% erosion protection gains compared with uncoated high performance alloys typically used in aero engines. Nitron Flight A performed even better with between 270% and 870% gains over the life of the test while Nitron Flight CA performed remarkably well, to give between 14 and 33 times improvement on the coated test pieces.
"These new developments can be a major benefit to engine makers and feed through to operating costs and fares" says Simeon Collins, Tecvac's sales manager "We think that over 50% of long haul operating costs are likely to be engine related and these new Tecvac coatings can play a major role in reducing these costs. Multi-layer coatings of this type on super- finished compressor blades ( ..which obviously vary between engine designs and materials) offer the prospect of significant benefits in not only actually reducing wear and thus extending maintenance intervals, but also help reduce specific fuel consumption, possibly between 0.75 and 1.5%.
