Three teams from London General Insurance raised over £2,000, as well having a fun filled day taking part in 'It's a Knockout' at the Great Oaks Hospice in Coleford earlier in the year.
Along with nine other teams, LGI's 'The Winning Group' (blue), 'The Mighty Muppets' (white) and 'Wii not Fit' (pink) took part in a number of entertaining events, competing in the hope they would be crowned champions. The LGI teams' efforts were fantastic, canvassing support from colleagues, friends & family. Including a company donation, they raised £2060.18 for the Forest of Dean Great Oaks Hospice. 'The Mighty Muppets' finished in 12th position, while 'The Winning Group' scraped by in 10th. The day's success story was 'Wii not Fit', proving everybody wrong by finishing in 4th. The day was enjoyed by the staff, whether they participated or watched and laughed from a safe distance.Jess Baldwin (The Winning Group), Nikki Jerwood (The Mighty Muppets) and Caroline Badham (Wii not Fit) presented the cheque to Jenny Roberts at Great Oaks during a recent visit to the hospice. The funds raised by the LGI teams will go to support all the activities of The Great Oaks Hospice.
The Great Oaks staff, which includes palliative care nurses, complementary therapists, a diversional therapist, social workers, cook, admin and support staff as well as specially trained volunteers and visiting chiropodist and chaplain, aims to ease the problems of Forest people living with a potentially life shortening condition. Care is tailored to suit the needs of each individual. Since 2004, Great Oaks has provided free care in a welcoming, relaxing, friendly and informal atmosphere; meeting the needs of people with long-term illnesses which are progressive in nature, life limiting and currently affecting their quality of life..
