LGI brings Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs to Children's Opportunity Centre
London General Insurance (LGI) charity painters from Mitcheldean brought Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs to stay at the Forest of Dean Children's Opportunity Centre in January.
Sarah Shilton, Rebecca Chatterley, Stef Thomas, Sasha Evans and Nic Jerwood all worked to create a Snow White artwork to brighten up the cloakroom at the Centre, which provides support for children with special needs and their families throughout the Forest of Dean. LGI started the project in November by repainting and decorating the whole of the cloakroom areas. Now everything is bright and welcoming with 15 feet of artwork, including Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy and Sneezy, with Snow White, greeting children and their parents when they arrive at the Centre.
Charity fundraising projects supported by the staff at LGI during the Christmas period, including a Christmas hamper raffle run by the Finance team and charity contributions replacing Christmas cards, also raised £284 for the Centre.
"We aim to create a happy and stimulating environment for our children here," said Children's Opportunity Centre manager Marilyn Smith. "We are really grateful for this support from LGI. The centre is always looking for volunteer support, and this type of practical contribution is worth a lot to us. Without support from the local businesses and the individual volunteers we wouldn't be able to maintain these much needed services for special needs in the Forest of Dean. The Centre is keen to encourage volunteer help, for the play schemes, garden maintenance, and minibus driving, and for all our other activities. We're always on the look-out for new ideas."
LGI teams from the Operations Centre at Mitcheldean, including Martin Scrivens, Andrea Brown, George Gates, Kayleigh Marsh, Jodie Pegler, Lyndsay Beard, Darren Bailey, Jessica Baldwin, Jeannette Greenway and Anna Jones, painted the cloakroom area end-to-end in November, ready for the artwork. The LGI painting teams all contributed to the work as part of LGI's Charity Day project, where all the staff are given one day each year to support local charities in the Forest of Dean.
