Millions of customers throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland are supported by the Operations Centre of London General Insurance in Mitcheldean, which provides customer services for leading brands including RAC, B&Q, Volkswagen, Allied Irish Bank, John Lewis Partnership, Comet and Toyota.
Martin Scrivens, Learning and development general manager said "Our commitment to these quality brands mean that we place a very high priority on exceptional standards of customer service. This in turn has helped us build a strong business which is now well established in the Forest of Dean. Since moving to Mitcheldean in 2007, LGI has invested more than £500,000 in direct training and recruited more than 170 employees from Gloucestershire. The business now employs 210 people at Mitcheldean of which 92% live in the Forest of Dean. The investment at Mitcheldean has helped LGI win substantial new business. One of the new clients was John Lewis Partnership (JLP), which LGI started working with in 2008. The dedicated LGI team manages hundreds of customer calls every day on behalf of JLP, and has delivered excellent results consistently; a fact which was recognised at this year's CCF Awards, when they were short listed for the Small Team of the Year. "Richard Ambler, Manager Extended Warranty at John Lewis said "It is a credit to you all that you have fitted so smoothly into the John Lewis operation and I am always impressed by the level of service you deliver to our shared customers."
LGI recognises that this kind of performance can only be achieved by continuous investment in the employees. With this in mind they have continued to provide training, staff development and performance evaluation to build on a total investment in the Forest of Dean of more than £5 million. "In line with our commitment to deliver excellent customer service, we believe that the right attitude is more important than knowledge," continued Martin." Our objective is to become an employer of choice in the Forest of Dean. We aim to improve our business by continued investment in people including personal development, coaching, building a culture of regular feedback and maintaining a sense of ownership.
"This includes our Employee Recognition Programme that celebrates our successes which ultimately has a positive impact on the motivation and morale of our workforce. We also place a high value on community work where we offer practical assistance to local charities, in addition to getting involved in fundraising events such as the It's a Knockout event where we were able to raise over £2000 for the Great Oaks Hospice in Coleford."LGI has built strong relationships with many local organizations ranging from stationers (Office Star) to the Forest Education Business Partnership to the Royal Forest of Dean College (RFDC) these relationships have helped support the local community in addition to benefitting the business. An example of this was when LGI was able to offer its staff a development opportunity. Working together, LGI and RFDC developed a bespoke and innovative vehicle engineering which was delivered to the employees developing their technical skills while enhancing the level of service delivered to customers. In addition LGI and RFDC have collaborated on an apprenticeship scheme. The most recently recruited apprentices work in the JLP team and also attend college one day each week supporting their studies towards an NVQ qualification in Customer Service. Extending its support to the community of the Forest of Dean, LGI is also the proud sponsor of the Pride of the Forest's Volunteer of the Year Award for 2008 and 2009 and looks forward to continuing work with the Forest of Dean District Council and The Forester for this annual event.
